About

Meet the Chef:

Hello, my name is Carissa. I’m a high school student with an unhealthy obsession with baking. Baking is my one-stop cure-all; despite a hectic life, I always find comfort in frosting a cake or making brownies to bring to school. Having a bad day? Bake. Want to make some friends? Bake. Need a new (and delicious!) hobby? Bake. For me, baking has always been both an art and a science, so let’s put on our lab coats and enter the kitchen!

Behind the Blog:

My whole life, I’ve loved expressing my creativity while giving back to others. This first appeared early in my childhood through my art; even in pre-school, I would insist on drawing pictures instead of running around on the playground. This past year, as a serious high school student, I was so busy with academics and extracurriculars, that I had very little time to do activities that I truly enjoyed. I suddenly realized how much I enjoyed baking in what little time I did have to spare, a hobby that I had been practicing often for family dinners and advisory snacks for school. So then came my idea: why not combine my love of baking and expression through writing to share with the world!? This idea came to me during Spring Break, my time to start getting serious about studying for AP courses, so I forced myself to complete the year before starting my blog in order to avoid procrastination. Eventually, summer finally drew near and it was time to kick off my blog! I created the name of my blog “at 350 degrees” as a subtle play with words; a true baker knows that the standard degrees for baking is 350 (F), but from a grueling year of AP Chemistry, my inner scientist appreciated the chemical reactions at work at that key temperature. So at350degrees was born and the blogging began….

**Fun fact: Because I have always been interested in health and nutrition, I initially intended my blog to feature healthy, “guilt-free” desserts. I played with different recipes for about a month to create “skinny” versions of my favorite desserts, but I must admit that nothing compares to the real thing! So for now, expect sugar, butter, and gooey chocolate galore!

  1. I’ve recently switched my food blog over to be self-hosted which I hope will make it more user-friendly in the future. As a result, if you were following Can’t Stay Out of the Kitchen via email, WordPress, or using RSS feeds through Google Reader or some other way, you are no longer subscribed. If you wish to continue receiving future posts from my blog you will need to re-subscribe. Sorry for the inconvenience, Teresa.

  2. Ciao Carissa, I’m very honored you came to visit my blog and liking my post! Your presentation and blog are so sweet and touching..
I completely understand the joy of loving others through the pleasure of baking, I do it every day … and it’s such a joy for me I would devote myself only doing it!
Hoping my “bad” english makes a sense for you, forgive it it’s not.
I lived the best time of my life in the States so my greatest wish is keep in touch with many people .. and maybe one day being able to live abroad again …
I follow you but come back soon!
    A presto, Gabriella

  3. Hi Carissa, thank you for stopping by. We have a lot in common. I too have been baking since I was a little girl. My mother was an excellent cook, but not much of a baker and my sweet tooth forced me into the kitchen to bake from a really young age. I first started with cake box mixes and progressed from there. It has turned into a lifelong hobby and passion. Though my own blog is not solely dedicated to baking, baking will always remain my first love. I agree, there’s nothing that an afternoon in the kitchen baking can’t resolve. Look forward to exploring your blog. Victoria

  4. Hi Carissa,
Thanks for checking out my blog and following. I think I’m going to get a ton of inspiration from your blog. I’m newly wheat-free but I’m always on the hunt for good recipes to adapt. I look forward to browsing through the rest of your blog.

    Happy Baking!

  5. I love that you’re doing this and you’re just in high school! That is super impressive with all the work that high school can be. Thanks for following my little attempt at making ridiculous things :). I can’t wait to read (and try) more of your delicious posts!

  6. Hi Carissa! Since you started following my blog I wanted to check out your blog and say, “Hi.” I love baking too, and like you I’ve tried to make healthier versions of goodies. So far I haven’t been satisfied with them either. I haven’t given up hope, however; I’m still going to search for healthy, yet yummy, recipes. I love your blog! Since I’m vegan, I’ll have to adapt your recipes, but I’ve mastered how to make baked goods vegan and still great. Thanks for following!

  7. Hi Carissa! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog – I’m so glad I found yours! I love the story behind the name. • Question 1. They come from Latin (or a Latin based language)Question 2. They are in alacibetphal sequenceQuestion 3. The next letter for shirts and dresses is Q! I think you should name it Questa, which is Latin for seeker or to seek because Carissa Rose seeks to make women feel beautiful, powerful and ready to see their full potential!!!

  8. LOL I also think the best desserts are caked in butter, sugar and flour. My mouth is watering! I recently had to go sugar, dairy, wheat free due to health reasons, and I have found a few good sources of desserts, but again…the real thing is soooooo good!!!

    • yikes! I’ve worked at plecas where there were people who thought showing way too much cleavage was ok. None of the guys could concentrate, but the wearer probably loved that!

    • Question 1: The names seem to be European based, but I’ve noticed all end with the leettr a or the ah sound.2. They are all alphabetical3. Queena because anyone who wears it would feel and look like a Queen! And if you’re going to skip Q , I’d pick Rebecca, one of my five daughters and the only one who’s name ends in a .
